About

Arash Afshar is a Senior Staff Applied Cryptographer at Coinbase, specializing in MPC, zero-knowledge proofs, and threshold cryptography.

I am a Senior Staff Applied Cryptographer on the Applied Cryptography team at Coinbase. I research and design cryptographic protocols (zero-knowledge proofs, MPC, threshold signing, and related primitives), prove their security, and help turn them into production systems—including Coinbase’s core cryptography library cb-mpc and the MPC framework that secures Coinbase Wallet. Previously, I was a Senior Cryptography Engineer at Polymath, working on ZKP-based solutions for Polymesh, and before that a Team Lead / Senior Software Engineer on the Private Cloud team at Cisco. I received my PhD in Computer Science from University of Calgary on Design and Implementation of Maliciously Secure Two-Party Computation. I deeply care about security and software engineering, in particular how to create novel and practical software solutions and protect the privacy of the user without asking them to put a huge amount of trust on third party companies. The contents of this blog are my personal opinions and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of my employers. Moreover, as I learn more and evolve, my opinions and world views changes evolve (hopefully for the better).
